Dr. Jack Cathey has been appointed as the Interim Chair of the Department of Accounting in the Belk College of Business.
Dr. Cathey joined the Belk College faculty in 1988.He is a Certified Public Accountant in North Carolina whose professional experience includes working as a senior auditor with KPMG in Charlotte, N.C. He has published articles in a number of professional and academic journals.Dr.Catheyspeaks frequently to academic and professional groups on topics related to financial reporting and information systems. He earnedPhD andmaster's degrees fromVirginia Tech and a bachelor's degree fromWake Forest University. Dr. Cathey also serves as a director of NewDominion Bank.
"Jack is a highly regarded scholar and teacher and a much respected colleague who is well acquainted with the needs of the Department, the College, and the University," said Dr. Joseph Mazzola, dean of the Belk College, in making the appointment. "The Accounting Department is a vital component of the mission of the Belk College, and I am confident in Jack’s abilities to lead the Department at this important time in our strategic development."
Dr. Mazzola also expressed his appreciationto Dr. Bill Sealey, who has been serving as the interim chair ofAccountingin addition to his responsibilities as chair of the Department of Finance. "I very much appreciate Bill’s leadership during this period of transition for the Accounting Department,"Dr. Mazzola said.
